Glotec boosts Asian Pacific client base with Rural Development Bank

Johannesburg, 18 Nov 2002

Global Technology Australasia (GTA) has signed a new banking client with Rural Development Bank (RDB) in Papua New Guinea for the delivery of Globus eMerge, as its core banking system.

Globus eMerge is based on the proven functionality and flexibility of Globus, the most popular banking system in the world, installed at 500 customer sites in 96 countries. Globus eMerge is affordable, custom-built for second-tier and non-banking financial institutions, and provides a future-proof strategy for clients with a clear upgrade path.

It supports a broad range of banking products, providing customers with powerful tools they need to succeed in the modern banking environment, and the assurance that the system will continue to support them in a rapidly changing market.

"We are growing quickly, and while our legacy system provides us with basic functionality, it does not deliver the platform to take us forward," says Aho Baliki, acting MD of RDB. "We believe Globus eMerge will transform the way we do business and support our business requirements well into the future. We were impressed with GTA`s high-quality support services and in-depth expertise in our market."

RDB is a statutory agency wholly owned by the government of Papua New Guinea, providing loans for small to medium-sized rural projects, and commercial and industrial loans. With a 12-branch network and 240 staff, RDB strives to implement the government`s medium-scale businesses in order to stimulate sustainable private sector growth.

RDB`s intention is to acquire a new standalone banking and loan management information system. A key element of the future direction for information systems is the progressive replacement of the existing computer hardware and software that become technically obsolete, functionally deficient and increasingly difficult to support and maintain.

"Signing RDB open significant opportunities for Globus and Glous eMerge in this region, " says Ray Leonard, CEO of JSE Securities Exchange-listed Global Technology. "A number of second-tier banks in the Asian Pacific region are looking to automate their operations and they will be watching this project with great interest. As a result, we expect exciting new prospects for our banking solutions."
