GM invests $61m in tech

General Motors (GM) will invest $61 million in precision sand casting technology at its plant in Defiance, Ohio, says ReliablePlant.

The revamp is set to begin in June, with the production of precision sand casting blocks to begin in 2009.

The technology is a first for this plant and will be used to produce aluminium engine blocks in 3.6-litre high-feature V-6 engines.

Manufacturing tech spend increases

Spend on manufacturing technology is on the increase, reports Industry Week.

The figures for March last year are up 1.4% from last year, totalling $371.10 million, according to the American Machine Tool Distributor Association and the Association for Manufacturing Technology.

This upward pattern of growth and spend is expected to continue.

ASC signs agreement with Polymer

AxioMed Spine Corporation (ASC) has completed an agreement with the Polymer Technology Group (PTG), says dBusinessNews Cleveland.

ASC will open a manufacturing plant at its new premises, planning to begin manufacturing by the end of this year, and PTG will provide business .

ASC has also acquired an exclusive licence for PTG's patented polymer.
