GN Nettest/PK Technology, the world leader in the highly specialised field of fiber test tools products, believes that the pro-active role played by Spescom MeasureGraph has provided GN Nettest with a stronghold for growing its business on the southern tip of the African continent.
According to Gareth Rees, account manager at GN Nettest (UK)/PK Technology Limited in England, certain key accounts are addressed by individual managers. However Spescom has displayed such a high level of professionalism that the company has been accorded the unusual privilege of being given sole responsibility for handling all accounts based in Southern Africa.
Rees recently visited South Africa to inform local customers of his company's latest OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflector) measurement product and to strengthen his existing relationship with Spescom.
"I was most impressed with Spescom, and particularly impressed with the expertise demonstrated by Hilton Preston, the Spescom fiber test system product specialist," comments Rees. "The observations I was able to make during my visit have made it clear that it is unnecessary for me to handle South African accounts personally, as I can most effectively leave that role to Spescom. I believe that our present relationship with Spescom will go from strength to strength in increasing our mutual business."
However, says Rees, he will continue to visit South Africa at least once a year to inform clients about new products. With equipment as specialised as fiber test systems, it is important that clients understand the specifications of the systems and how they can benefit from them, he says.
GN Nettest / PK Technology provides optical fiber test instruments which are used during the production of optical fiber and optical cables. These instruments are also used by laboratories of optical fiber manufactures to ensure that their final products meet the specifications demanded by the telecommunications industry.
And, as part of its ongoing mission to lead the field in fiber test tools, GN Nettest is constantly engaged in adapting and expanding its comprehensive product range to satisfy the complete needs of the manufacturing sector and of the laboratory alike. The reputation for reliability developed over the years by GN Nettest products has led to an ever-increasing demand for the products, with 95% of the worlds fiber testing now being carried out with PK Technology instruments.
"With 30% of the cost of fiber being spent on measurement, manufacturers want a reliable and fast system which will reduce the cost of measurement," Rees says. "GN Nettest Optical Production and Lab division products can offer that dependability with its product range, which includes products previously branded as Photon Kinetics, PK Technology and York Technology."
According to Hilton Preston, fiber test system product specialist at Spescom MeasureGraph, the demand for fiber is growing rapidly and South African manufacturers of optical fiber and fiber cables are becoming global players.
"There are enough opportunities for us to get involved internationally," he comments. "The demand for fiber world-wide is far greater than the supply, and our locally manufactured fiber is very well accepted in the international market place. The development of the local industry will result in the creation of increased revenue and job opportunities in the South African economy."
Preston says that Spescom is intent on providing added value to the imported product in the form of "service and solutions" by concentrating on the provision of technical back-up, service and maintenance. Spescom MeasureGraph's Customer Support Service has the capacity to repair and maintain product right down to component level. In order to keep abreast of the latest trends in the industry, Preston is to continue his regular attendance at sales meetings in England.
Spescom MeasureGraph (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of JSE-listed Spescom Limited and a leading supplier of test and measurement equipment, is the sole local distributor of GN Nettest products.
