Google acquisition could continue
Video software firm On2 Technologies has settled five pending lawsuits, potentially clearing the way for its takeover by Internet giant Google, according to MSN.
The New York-based On2, which specialises in video compression technology used by companies such as Adobe, Skype and Nokia, did not disclose the terms of the settlement.
The settlement also still needs court approval.
Red Bend sues Google
Red Bend Software, a mobile phone software developer, is suing Google over a patent dispute involving the search giant's Chrome Internet browser, states Business Journal.
In its legal complaint filed in Boston's district court, Red Bend alleges that Chrome infringes a patent on technology that enables wireless carriers to efficiently distribute updates for mobile-phone software.
According to the suit, Chrome also contains an algorithm, called Courgette, designed to enable Google to issue software updates.
Anonymous blogging has limits
US courts have historically looked on anonymous bloggers with a sympathetic eye, but there are exceptions, reports Ars Technica.
A Tennessee judge denied a blogger's motion to quash a subpoena to reveal his identity and he also denied a motion to dismiss the case.
The judge however notes his decision would be subject to interlocutory appeal, meaning that a ruling from a higher court could overturn his decision even before the case itself is over.
