Google has introduced an immersive, 360-degree viewing experience for artistic performances such as ballets, operas and orchestra concerts.
The Google Cultural Institute partnered with over 60 performing arts venues and organisations around the world, such as New York's Carnegie Hall, the Berliner Philharmonie, and Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre, to allow users to virtually attend, tour, or get a VIP view of these historic spaces.
The new selection of 360-degree recordings allows users to watch performances from "closer than a front-row seat" or in among the performers: on stage or in the orchestra pit.
Google's indoor street views also allow users to explore the famous venues and their unique attractions; for example, offering zoomable, ultra-high resolution, gigapixel images of costumes at France's National Centre for Stage Costume.
The venue tours can also be used by potential in-person visitors to where their seats are and how good a view they offer, suggests a Google blog post about the release.
The Google Cultural Institute was founded in 2011, "to bring the world's treasures to anyone with an Internet connection," and allows users to explore museums, historical archives, street art pieces, and "wonders of the world" such as Machu Picchu, the Pyramids of Giza, and the Taj Mahal.
