Google looks to TV
Google is working with Intel and Sony to enter the TV business, writes Catholic Online.
The search giant is developing an Android-base set-top box set based on Google's Android OS, which will be an open source.
The proposed platform will allow users to surf the Web and download from such sites as YouTube and Hulu.
IPv6 transition software released
Comcast and Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) released the Address Family Transition Router (AFTR) software, open source software surrounding IPv6, says Market Watch.
The technology enables users to access IPv4 content from their legacy IPv4 devices and applications over an IPv6 network.
"Comcast's core network and back office infrastructure already supports IPv6 today, but the industry's transition to IPv6 will require widespread access to key technologies like AFTR," says Richard Woundy, SVP of software and applications for Comcast.
CodePlex unveils network monitoring project
Microsoft's open source CodePlex Foundation released its second project gallery in an effort to improve network monitoring technology, states Internet News.
The CodePlex NetMons Parser project aims to bridge the gap between Windows developers and their counterparts working in environments like Samba.
Paula Hunter, executive director of the CodePlex Foundation says: "We'll be providing the tools to assist developers in using the features of the Windows platform that provide interoperability and ensuring that we have more open source participation in this process."
