Today Foster-Melliar announced it will host Professor Mervyn King in a once-off governance seminar, in Sunninghill, Johannesburg, in February 2011.
Professor Mervyn E King is regarded as the architect of governance, having been the chair of a private-sector corporate governance committee, which became known as the King committee. Its first report issued in 1994 was considered ahead of its time. Subsequently, two more reports have been published, the latest of which - King III - has been adopted by the New York stock exchange and been incorporated into Sarbanes-Oxley.
Professor King's work in the area of governance has changed the way businesses operate, prioritise and position themselves both locally and internationally.
A committed South African, dedicated campaigner for justice and fairness, an accessible and selfless man, Mervyn King has consulted, advised and spoken on legal, business and corporate governance issues in 39 countries. He has published a successful book, The Corporate Citizen, has won numerous awards and remains an inspiration for many.
On 3 February Foster-Melliar will be hosting two workshops, morning and afternoon, for individuals and corporates. These workshops will be presented by Prof King and includes, among others, an overview of King III and the new Companies Act, principles and practices of good governance and the close relationship between sustainability, strategy and governance.
