Government contract opens up opportunities for Faritec in Botswana

Johannesburg, 23 Mar 1999

Faritec Services, part of the Faritec Group, has been awarded a 2-year contract to assist the Botswana government with a full IT installation and implementation project.

The services contract supports a Y2K project for the Botswana government, setting up a high availability, centralised UNIX server for a number of different government operations. "We have two full-time personnel based in Gaberone to co-ordinate the operations side of the project, and ensure everything runs smoothly," says Faritec Services MD Peter Winn.

"The project is ground-breaking in the way that it combines so many different Oracle applications. We are in the process of converting and testing systems to ensure that an estimated 60% of the operation is in place by the end of the year."

The contract, worth R2,5-million in related IT services, is especially significant for Faritec as it opens up new opportunities for the group in the region. The Faritec Group also recently announced the acquisition of KwaZulu-Natal IT company Business Management Solutions as a means of establishing a meaningful presence in the province.
