The South African government has renewed a R1.2 million per year contract with Sabinet Online Ltd for the provision of information services for a further three years.
Sabinet Online is SA's premier facilitator of access to value-added information, with a 19-year history of serving many of the country's major corporates as well as academic, state and quasi-government institutions.
This is the second time that the contract has been awarded to the company. Sabinet Online has, however, been providing information services to the government since 1983.
All State departments are included in the contract, of which 38 are using the services. The contract covers cataloguing support, interlibrary loans, information reference services and other related services, eg product training and support.
Pierre Malan, Sabinet Online's Director:Academic and Library Division, explains that through SabiCat, the most comprehensive acquisitions and cataloguing support service in Southern Africa, the government has affordable access to more than 42 million bibliographic records.
The Web-based interlibrary loan process is facilitated by a product called ReQuest. Among other features, this offers detailed institutional statistics and the complete management of inter-institutional transactions and fees.
Finally, through MagNet, the Web-based information retrieval service, the government has access to an array of information sources including SA Citations (Indexed article database of SA and international journals), SA Gazettes as well as Bill Tracker, SA Tenders, SA News, SA Legal and SA Cat Plus (books and journal database).
Sabinet Online Ltd has established itself over the past 19 years as an expert in facilitating electronic access to information - understanding and catering for the needs of serious information users across a broad spectrum of markets. The company is also an established Web database publisher.
It brings a total solution to clients' information needs by making use of strategic elements from its portfolio of products as well as both technical and people skills. Few companies can match Sabinet Online's long track record of experience and effectiveness in addressing the diverse needs of a large and continually growing client base, spanning the corporate, academic and government markets.
