The Department of Communications and the State IT Agency (SITA) aim to make the government tendering process as smooth as possible with the development of databases containing prospective suppliers` details.

The Department of Communications is inviting prospective suppliers to apply for registration in its database of suppliers.

Department official Tumi Musi says the database will assist with requests for quotations in order to give all registered suppliers an equal opportunity to submit quotations.

"We did not have a database in the past. Companies only submitted tenders when the department advertised. But now with the database, we will be able to determine what sort of business the companies are involved in and notify them of any tenders available."

The invitation to apply can be viewed on the department`s Web site at http://docweb.pwv.gov.za.

Theo Boshoff, SITA`s media liaison officer, says the organisation is also in the process of establishing such a database.

"This will also help us to invite prospective tenderers to make presentations so that we know what sort of services they offer."
