GovTech 08 kicks off

Johannesburg, 28 Jul 2008

The third annual GovTech Conference has kicked off at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC).

Run under the auspices of the State IT Agency (SITA), the conference aims to bring together industry and government to discus the use of ICT in government today, as well as latest technological developments.

Speaking at the opening gala function last night, public service and administration minister Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi said she would be keeping a close eye on the discussions at GovTech to ensure they are translated into action.

She said the conference serves as a "festival of ideas between industry and government", a sentiment that was echoed by SITA CEO, Llewellyn Jones.

Jones added that the forum was also an ideal opportunity for industry players.

Event sponsor and SITA's former chief of strategic services, GijimaAST CEO Jonas Bogoshi, said the state body was the ideal host, as it was best placed to assess transversal requirements within government.

The conference runs over the course of the next three days and will feature keynote addresses by the likes of Telkom, SAP and state broadband provider Infraco.
