Potchefstroom-based Fourie's Poultry Farms, a poultry producer, has installed Mozaic, a locally developed ERP solution specifically designed for the food manufacturing and distribution industry. Fourie's provides fresh chickens and value-added poultry products to leading national supermarkets and food franchises, including Woolworths, Nando's and the OBC group, among others.
Lloyd Griessel, MD of Mozaic Software comments: "Mozaic will provide Fourie's with a proper, variable weight inventory, allowing the company to take orders in units and invoice in kilograms. The benefit of this feature is that the unit costing can be calculated on a uniform platform - orders are placed in units of crates, whereas accounting functions use kilograms as measuring units."
Greg Gouws, IT Manager at Fourie's, says Mozaic was selected for its added functionality, value for money and its understanding of the unique fresh produce market. "Mozaic provides us with detailed, accurate sales information. This information would have taken much longer to calculate on our legacy system. Mozaic's open financial periods ensures that there is no delay at month close, as the previous month's purchases need not be completely closed off before the next month's sales figures and customer credit limits are updated. A good industry fit and tight integration between modules has led to greater efficiency for Fourie's," he says.
There have been other benefits since Mozaic was implemented. Credit issues have decreased because the system caters for specific product properties, such as fixed weight and weight variances, which greatly reduces invoicing errors. Strict input verification reduces operator faults, and cross-check tools throughout the system ensure fast enquiries. Greg continues: "The fast implementation and minimal disruption to operations was made possible by a well-designed product and Mozaic Software's dedicated, skilled staff."
