Green centres to grow

With the IT industry responsible for about 2% of the world's carbon emissions, and data centres the fastest growing part of that equation, investments in greener data centres will grow rapidly over the next five years, reports Environmental Leader.

Investments are said to be increasing from $7.5 billion in global revenue to $41.4 billion by 2015, according to a report from Pike Research. This represents a 28% share of the total data centre market.

The report, 'Green data centres', finds that IT organisations are now focused on implementing solutions that will reduce energy costs and carbon emissions related to data centre operations.

SMEs worry over data loss

Indian small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) are increasingly becoming concerned about data loss and are taking steps to ensure that their information is protected, says software maker Symantec, writes The Hindu.

According to Symantec's 2010 Global SMB Information Protection Survey, 67% of Indian SMEs are concerned about data loss and most of them are focusing on enhancing backup, recovery and archiving initiatives.

In contrast to the Symantec 2009 Security and Storage survey, which pointed towards the lack of even basic security solutions like anti-virus, the 2010 findings indicate that firms are now focusing on information protection measures.

Cofio in Canadian channel expansion
