Green IT revenue to rise

WPG Holdings, a distributor of electronic components, said revenue for green energy-related products may exceed $10 billion next year after it won the right to sell Green Energy Technology's solar wafers in China, says Bloomberg.

“We have started selling Green Energy's solar wafers from this month and the response has been good,” said WPG's chief finance officer, Cliff Yuan.

The Economic Daily News reported that the company has won distributorship of Green Energy's silicon wafers, without saying where it got the information.

Trial green tech programme disappoints

A trial programme meant to speed the pace of innovation in green technology hasn't unleashed the torrent of activity as hoped, reports CNET.

Started in December, the US Patent and Trademark Office's (USPTO) Green Technology Pilot Programme puts patent petitions related to environmental technologies at the front of the line for appraisal. The goal is to encourage economic activity in the sector.

Initially, the patent office said the first 3 000 existing patent petitions that fit the category could request accelerated status, with the number capped to ensure adequate attention from examiners. However, a USPTO representative said there have been 1 477 requests for accelerated status, well short of the pace first expected.

Malay up green funding

More banks in Malaysia are going into green technology financing in view of the potential market for environmental business amid surging levels of greenhouse gases, reveals The Star Online.

Although green financing has not taken off in a big way in Malaysia compared with developed countries, it has been gaining prominence.

Sumitomo Mitsui , one of the five foreign commercial banks which recently received licences to operate in the country, has teamed up with the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers to provide $200 million financing for local manufacturers.
