Grintek, the supplier of Sentech's international VOIP gateway platform for its carrier of carriers licence, is poised to assist Sentech, a leader in converged communication solutions, with the launch of its residential and managed enterprise voice services.
This is in the wake of communication minister, Dr Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri's announcement in September last year on the deregulation of the telecommunications industry from 1 February. This development will allow value-added service providers to carry voice using any protocol, VOIP being the most capable and cost-efficient.
Grintek supplied Sentech with Verso Technologies' next-generation Class 4 VOIP solution for international carriers two years ago. This enabled Sentech to fulfil its carrier of carrier requirements. The platform is being considered to include Verso's Class 5 solution that will enable Sentech to offer residential services over its access network. Grintek and Verso would play a strategic role in enabling Sentech to offer residential and enterprise VOIP services by not only deploying the solution but performing interoperability tests allowing Sentech to offer a range of devices for deployment at customer premises.
"Sentech will announce our various new voice offerings for residential and business customers, as soon as comprehensive testing and integration have been completed," says Marcel Raath, executive of marketing and sales at Sentech.
Throughout sub-Saharan Africa, Grintek has emerged as a leader in VOIP technology and has a presence in 24 African countries, providing solutions and support to local operators.
Chief executive officer for Grintek Technologies Makhup Nyama says: "Grintek is ready to respond to the challenge of being Sentech's strategic technology partner. We are confident the technology and business solutions that Grintek and Verso have will assist Sentech in becoming a major telecommunications player in SA."
Over the past six years Grintek has been instrumental in enabling operators in sub-Saharan Africa, especially in the SADC region, to implement VOIP solutions. Locally Sentech has been a beneficiary of Grintek's vast experience in this field.
