Grintek enables VOIP for Sibaya Casino

Johannesburg, 07 Jul 2005

Grintek Technologies has successfully installed a multimillion-rand Nortel converged voice and data wireless solution (voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP)) at Sun International's new Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Nortel converged infrastructure now enables the casino's telecommunications services to run across data networks and will benefit users of high bandwidth applications.

"The succession platform which we have installed at Sibaya is a new product for Nortel networks in SA," says Makhup Nyama, chief executive officer for Grintek Technologies. "Instead of using the old conventional PABX technology this platform uses computers and the new telephones - the Internet Protocol."

Nyama says Sibaya casino will reap significant cost savings from the installation of the Nortel network.

"For example, because the client maintains only one data support team there is no need for a telephony support team and this saves costs," says Nyama. "Also, you have one physical infrastructure which is the data network and this provides flexibility and adaptability for guests."

Nyama points out that Grintek worked in conjunction with other partners who assisted with the project completed ahead of schedule, which was remarkable for the installation of new technology.
