Grintek's AIS enables fully automated trading environment at Mettle

Johannesburg, 23 Apr 2002

Grintek's Application Integration Software (AIS) company recently completed a middleware Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) solution that has fully automated and integrated the trading process environment at well-known financial services company Mettle.

"In the past, a large part of the trading process was done manually. The streamlining, speed and efficiencies introduced by the installation of AIS's solution should greatly improve internal productivity. It will enable us to monitor, and manage, our risk factor that much better, as we now have all the automated trades data integrated on one site in our back office, via the Automated Trading System (ATS) and Application Programme Interface (API)," says Mettle's treasurer Steve Panos.

As a financial services company, Mettle needed to book equities, futures or bonds trades on behalf of their clients. Prior to the introduction of the AIS solution, all trades were booked or registered via a manual entry system, which was susceptible to human error.

"The trades are now booked using a combination of the user front-end system Hermes, which is linked directly to the JSE Securities Exchange (for equities trades), as well as into SAFEX (South African Futures Exchange) and BATS (Bond Exchange)," explains Rupert Pulverman, Grintek Telecom's AIS director of consultancy.

"Via our EAI middleware software solution, the trades data to or from any of these three exchanges - JSE Securities, SAFEX or the Bond Exchange, is then integrated directly to or from Mettle's front and back office systems, in a fully automated, 'straight through processing' manner (STP)," he explains.

"Mettle's back-office system is now fully enabled as a holistic deal process environment, providing a single point of data access and retrieval, from which all-important financial elements such as Mettle's total risk factor, can be quickly calculated."

"The business process efficiencies which this EAI software solution implementation will bring about, enables us to concentrate on our core business, and deliver a more competitive service to our clients, without being concerned about manual system errors, or hampered by trade volumes," points out Panos.

This also enables the company to have its finger on the pulse of Mettle's total industry risk and exposure at anytime, which is invaluable in the financial services business.
