GTE uses ARIS to streamline SAP R/3

Telecommunications giant GTE is using the ARIS Toolset from IDS Scheer to support its enterprise-wide implementation of SAP R/3. With ARIS GTE is documenting the business processes that support the continued implementation of the SAP R/3 finance, payroll and human resources modules throughout its US operations.

The use of ARIS has provided $23bn-a-year GTE with a process modelling and analysis tool to capture business processes. In addition, IDS Scheer has provided initial consulting services to assist GTE in using the ARIS Toolset in support of the SAP R/3 implementation.

"ARIS has provided us with a single company source for SAP business process documentation," says Grace Lawrence, VP of Infrastructure Management/National for GTE. "In addition it provides us with standard conventions across all application areas."

"GTE is one of over 2 700 companies using ARIS worldwide," says Dr. Mathias Kirchmer, president and CEO of IDS Scheer. "ARIS provides a broad range of functionality to optimise business processes and knowledge management, and is very useful for BPR and ERP implementations, especially SAP R/3 projects. Combined with our consulting services, we can deliver complete solutions to implement SAP R/3 and to optimise business processes."

The ARIS Toolset provides advanced modelling functionality that extends R/3 reference models and offers users a system to manage the elements of R/3 processes for analysis and configuration. It can be used to define methodology and reference models, and provides a tool to optimise and manage business processes for enterprise-specific needs - ultimately improving productivity and quality.

ARIS is the only process-modelling tool that allows users to search for the occurrence of an R/3 object or object attribute across all models.

Lawrence says: "ARIS offers the search, reporting and attribute maintenance features we needed. The ability to link objects within separate models provides an easy means of following a process path across application areas. The ARIS Toolset eliminates the need to squeeze a large number of objects into a single model."

ARIS is represented in South Africa by Software Futures, a subsidiary of Computer Configurations Holdings.
