Local steel wire rope, high carbon wire and strand manufacturer, Haggie, a member of the Scaw Metals Group, has implemented Seagate Software`s Analysis application for desktop reporting. Seagate Software`s Analysis is used to access the company general ledgers, consolidating all information for access by authorised staff.
Alan Crozier, Financial Director at Haggie, explains: "Using Seagate Software`s Analysis we are able to view all of the data we have residing in these systems and then drill down into the different regions to access the information we need," he says.
The use of the application signals a radical departure for the company in terms of report generation. Prior to the implementation a great deal of financial report development was outsourced. "It has replaced a lot of spreadsheets in the company," says Crozier.
Haggie has empowered users to write their own reports that are posted to staff desktops for access. "This adds user confidence as they can now generate their own reports," he says.
Additional benefits include a reduced report cycle as well as freeing IT support staff to concentrate on their day to day tasks instead of having to generate reports. "We are currently generating over 300 reports. In the past this cost us time and money. Now the report cycle has been cut by some ten days," he says.
The company is also looking at generating reports on sales, margins, and other areas such as stock, inventory and technical data.
"The application delivers a complete data analysis toolkit to help any end user to quickly and easily access and analyse information stored in virtually any database," says Inthiaz Cassimjee, country manager, Africa and Middle East at Seagate Software.
"It integrates proven data browsing technologies, including ad hoc query, multi-dimensional data analysis (OLAP) and report viewing, all with tight links to Microsoft Excel, into one easy-to-use tabbed interface," he adds. "With this tool, users can view and analyse information from the perspective that most interests them. By leveraging all the basics of business intelligence in one integrated tool, an organisation can eliminate the need for non-integrated, multi-vendor solutions and achieve the same results," says Hannes Nolan, MD of Rapha Training, the Seagate Software Business partner responsible for the initial implementation, and report generation.
Looking ahead, Crozier says the company plans to implement an intranet for access by users at remote sites.
