Hall Longmore, a member of the Murray & Roberts group, has implemented IMPACT Encore from local software developer Syspro as the first step in its transition towards e-commerce.
Thesen Narainsamy, Logistics Director of Hall Longmore, says: "IMPACT Encore is the core of our strategy to put e-business in place. We intend to use IMPACT's quick, simple functionality in this area. For example, debtors' statements can be sent direct via e-mail at the touch of a button."
Hall Longmore is a leading manufacturer of Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) piping, spiral welded piping and corrosion protection products. It produces 48,000 tons of ERW and 12,000 tons of spiral piping annually. About 50% of Hall Longmore's production is exported.
According to Carole Beaton, IT Manager of Hall Longmore, IMPACT Encore was chosen for the speed of its implementation, ease of use and cost-effectiveness. The system was implemented using the support services of ProActive Integrators, an IMPACT dealer.
"We are totally happy with the support," Beaton says. "The implementation was completed in five months and went very smoothly."
IMPACT Encore was able to meet Hall Longmore's requirements without customisation, while simultaneously catering for the high volumes produced by the manufacturer. The decision to use a non-customised product was based on a need to rapidly adapt to business changes while containing maintenance and costs.
Hall Longmore has 20 IMPACT Encore users at its Wadeville site, which is linked by a Diginet line to a further two users in Vereeniging. The company is using the manufacturing, distribution and financial modules of the system.
"Another critical benefit is the high level of integration offered by IMPACT Encore, which enables us to use it as a decision-making tool for management. We have also achieved considerable time savings and increased accuracy," Beaton points out.
John Lovell, director of ProActive Integrators, attributes the success of Hall Longmore's IMPACT implementation to the company's clear objectives and willingness to assume ownership of the system.
"Carole and her team knew exactly what they wanted from the beginning," he says. "It was a pleasure working with them, and all the users were very co-operative."
A leading ERP software manufacturer, Syspro's IMPACT Encore product is used and supported in more than 45 countries around the world. Syspro already includes product-wide support for the creation of XML documents (supported by built-in XSL style sheets to make such documents suitable for rendering in a web browser) in IMPACT Encore Version 5.0. The company is currently working towards the implementation of XML (and XBRL) support in the General Ledger Financial Report Writer in a future release.
