Thanks to a revolutionary new software application called eBirds, ornithologists are now able to enhance their hobby with the use of a handheld PC. Based on the original Sasol sponsored book, Birds of Southern Africa, bird lovers can now use a digital version with enhancements such as a search facility, sound, maps, and over 950 plates.

Samantha Galliet, HP IPAQ product manager at Axiz believes that consumers are beginning to feel more comfortable with mobile technology. So much that they are now leveraging it in their leisure activities such as ornithology. They are then able to move on to using the PDA for email and other programs featured on a handheld computer," comments Galliet.
