Hands-free e-mail while driving
Intelligent Mechatronic Systems has unveiled a Bluetooth devise that allows drivers to check their e-mails while they drive, without taking their eyes off the road, says Wireless Week.
The iLane Bluetooth device connects with wireless devices to read aloud incoming messages and manages the inbox through voice-activated commands.
It automatically notifies the driver of incoming e-mails and offers the option of listening to the entire e-mail, forwarding it or composing a response. The system also works with phone calls and SMS messages.
phone for Skype available
SMC Networks has introduced its first wireless Internet mobile phone for Skype software, says phonemag.
The new WiFi phone allows free calls to Skype users anywhere in the world and enables users to call ordinary landlines and mobile phones using SkypeOut at a low cost.
Handsets are being shipped to resellers across North America and Europe.
Talk to your laundry machine
The Internet Home Alliance has begun an eight-week trial to determine how wireless communications can streamline family laundry, reports ITWire.
Using washers and dryers that have wireless technology incorporated into them, the machinery is able to communicate with homeowners through cellphones, computers and TVs, and to be controlled via SMS messages.
The results of the trial will be made public in early 2007.
