Hartford Life reports for duty with SQR

Johannesburg, 26 Aug 1998

Sqribe Technologies, a leader in the enterprise reporting market, has announced that the Employee Benefits Division (EBD) of Hartford Life, Inc has chosen Sqribe`s SQR enterprise reporting technology for its information delivery infrastructure.

Hartford Life, the US`s fourth largest life insurance group, will use SQR Server to help comply with its Year 2000 mandate and to create a Web-based information delivery system for over 1 000 users of its corporate intranet.

SQR is represented in South Africa by Abraxas Software.

Hartford Life is continuing its efforts to make its financial and administrative processes more effective. Hartford Life`s EBD needed an application that would not only meet its Year 2000-compliance and performance requirements, but would provide a more user-friendly interface for reporting critical enterprise information.

"Our primary reporting objective is to provide information access to a broad array of users within the division," says Jim Bosco, director of information engineering for Hartford Life`s EBD. "Our new enterprise reporting infrastructure will greatly increase employee productivity and improve our bottomline profitability."

SQR Server`s distributed processing architecture is used by more than half of Fortune 500 companies for high-volume, high-performance server-based reporting.

Hartford Life is deploying SQR Server as the enterprise report processing engine for generating reports from its Oracle database environment. SQR Server provides native drivers for all major databases, with certified functionality to ensure that companies can easily leverage existing IT investments. Hartford Life`s Oracle applications run in a heterogeneous environment, including Digital Alpha OpenVMS Database servers, Windows NT application servers, and Windows 95 clients on all desktops across the enterprise.

Hartford Life regularly runs a number of management and control reports that provide information needed to service its customers. Hartford Life`s EBD is using SQR for all report processing including case management, claims information and billing information. Using SQR, Hartford Life can scan a database once in order to produce several reports in a single pass - something it can`t do with its existing system.

"Enterprise scalability and performance are critical for companies like Hartford Life, where timely access to vital business performance information translates directly into competitive advantage," says Bob Macdonald, VP of marketing for Sqribe. "SQR Server`s distributed processing architecture is ideally suited for Hartford Life`s intensive reporting requirements. In addition to improving enterprise efficiency, SQR Server will enable everyone from managers to brokers and customer service representatives to make more effective business decisions."
