Hattingh`s Cycan launches retained executive search division

Johannesburg, 30 Jul 2002

Bryan Hattingh, one of SA`s more experienced and respected business consultants, has announced the addition of a project-based executive search model to Cycan`s executive solutions business offering.

Hattingh is best known for establishing the Bryan Hattingh Group (BHG), which became SA`s most prominent IT-centric recruitment and executive search organisation.

In 1998, at the height of the IT boom, BHG was sold to JSE Securites Exchange-listed ADvTECH with a view to expanding and globalising the business. Shortly thereafter ADvTECH lost most of its market value as its share price plummeted. Hattingh and his executive committee were unable to reconcile themselves with the divergent culture and strategies of ADvTECH, and left after unsuccessful efforts to execute a management buyout. Hattingh then formed Cycan, a business and management consulting group that focuses on risk management and optimisation profit through executive and leadership interventions.

"With the group established and performing well, we have developed a project-based retained executive search model which complements our two other divisions: the risk-sharing `executives-on-call` model and merger and acquisition optimisation," says Hattingh.

"It is clear to any market watcher that there have been a series of executive blunders, including inappropriate appointments, insufficient management capability and financial delinquency. This has caused incalculable harm to various organisations and the markets at large. We aim to address this shortcoming."

The team at Cycan has more than 60 years` experience in business ownership management and development, 55 years in executive search and more than 90 years in the IT sector. While retaining strong capability in executive and specialist areas of the IT sector, Cycan also operates in sectors such as private equity, financial services, manufacturing, industry and healthcare.

"Business is seeking a new level of executive services," Hattingh comments, "one based on partnering and long-term, meaningful relationships, where the service provider becomes an extension of the organisation and is prepared to do so on a shared risk. This is as it should be, as companies are looking to minimise risks when appointing executives and boosting positive outcomes of performance, productivity and profitability."

Hattingh has the market`s most consistent track record in successfully engaging management and executive talent. High levels of individual and corporate success and length of tenure have been the consequence of a methodology of careful preparation and execution.
