HD portal broadcasts winter games

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and its broadcasting partners have released Vancouver Live, a video portal for winter sports enthusiasts, says Sports Features.

The Web site will distribute a selected number of events through the portal's HD channel. Live video streams will be available in high definition (HD) to provide a compelling online viewing experience.

The Web site will have the widest possible free to air broadband coverage of the Olympic Winter Games for audiences. The video portal aggregates over 30 EBU Member broadcasters' simulcast feeds, six EBU live feeds and a 24/7 Olympic News Channel showing more than 3 000 hours of live event coverage.

Comcast and NBC Universal used appearances before the House Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, and the Internet to insist that Comcast is committed to broadcast television should it be permitted to acquire control of NBCU, reports Radio Business Report.

“The transaction puts two great American communications companies under one roof. It will help to preserve traditional broadcast television - a business that faces serious challenges,” says Comcast CEO Brian Roberts.

NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker says NBCU's marketplace is a media free-for-all, without the need to worry about the deal impeding competition. Zucker says Comcast is committed to investing in programming that will improve NBCU's properties.

The compound annual growth rate for Mexico's Unicast mobile TV revenue will be 59% for the 2009-2014 period, states Cellular News.

According to a report released by Signals Telecom Consulting, deployment of the service in association with 3G networks will boost competition among operators, with the sales strategies deployed by operators offering mobile TV in Latin America, positioning Mexico as a market with the greatest development of Unicast real-time offerings.

"This is a market with extensive experience of the service, as Iusacell launched IusaTV on its EV-DO network, with this service being rapidly copied by Telcel via GPRS/EDGE. Both operators competed with the offering of mobile TV on their 3G networks," says Elias Vicente, senior analyst for Signals Telecom Consulting.
