HDS enhances storage management software for Windows platform

Johannesburg, 08 Mar 2005

Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has announced a series of enhancements to its HiCommand suite of heterogeneous storage infrastructure management software.

The upgrades deliver advanced integration for the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 platform, with improvements in measurement, analysis and diagnostic capabilities. There is also increased support for logical partitions, including external storage, on the Hitachi TagmaStore Universal Storage Platform (USP).

Chris Phillips, GM, Windows Server Division, Microsoft, explains: "Hitachi's storage software takes advantage of the inherent manageability of the Windows platform to help customers simplify and cost-effectively manage storage in Windows environments."

"These enhancements enable customers to realise new levels of information availability and application optimised performance, particularly in Windows environments," adds Fanie van Rensburg, MD of local distributor, Shoden Data Systems.

The new versions of Hitachi's HiCommand Tuning Manager and Device Manager provide significant improvements in measurement and analysis for the TagmaStore USP.

Gary Pilafas, Enterprise Architect, United Airlines, states: "Using Hitachi's storage software has saved me time and enabled me to manage my storage more efficiently. This is important, given the rapid growth of storage requirements on our key business systems. Hitachi's software gives us the ability to help manage our virtualised EMC storage under the TagmaStore Universal Storage Platform."

"Updates to the Tuning Manager enable greater ability to monitor and report I/O response time analysis, add storage system metrics, and extend its capabilities into logical partitions to externally attached storage systems. Device Manager can now configure and report on logical partitions within the USP, to better enable the determination of resources and service levels on an individual application basis," van Rensburg comments.
