HDS introduces 'Application Optimised Storage' solutions

Johannesburg, 14 May 2004

Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has announced its trademarked 'Application Optimised Storage' solutions - which beneficially combine business and application modules with Hitachi storage systems.

"Customers can precisely match business application requirements to Hitachi storage system attributes - performance, availability and data value - thus leveraging the application-centric management capabilities of the HiCommand Storage Area Management software range," explains Fanie van Rensburg, MD of local HDS distributor, Shoden Data Systems.

"While data lifecycle management can help companies lower cost and improve margin, greater gains will come from leveraging information to improve business performance," comments John McArthur, Group VP of Storage Research at IDC.

"Solutions that match storage system performance, provisioning and availability with business application requirements will play a key role in helping storage administrators focus on information and business performance, while automating data management.

"With this announcement, customers can finally bridge the gap between business application needs and information technology's ability to precisely deliver service levels," continues Van Rensburg. "Through an application-centric view, HiCommand software enables service levels to be fixed to ensure applications are optimised to deliver the greatest business value."
