HDS releases converged computing platform for SAP
Data Systems (HDS) announced a new converged platform alongside SAP that will help users manage and analyse massive amounts of critical data, while improving business decisions and insight based on instant access to that data, Computerworld says.
The announcement builds on the technology alliance HDS and SAP announced in May.
SAP's virtualisation layer spreads workloads across three tiers of client, application and database. The HDS storage infrastructure extends this model by layering on a conceptual fourth tier for virtualised storage. HDS features include storage and server virtualisation, dynamic provisioning, and advanced business continuity capabilities for greater resiliency and scalability for analysing big data.
HDS unveiled a new partnership last week under which SAP's High-Performance Analytical Appliance (HANA) is certified and optimised to run on HDS' converged infrastructure solution, which integrates storage and blade servers, CRN reports.
The result is an appliance-like offering that makes it easy for customers to analyse large volumes of data using the SAP HANA platform, said Mike Walkey, senior VP of global partners and alliances at HDS.
SAP HANA analyses data in real-time when attached to IT systems such as ERP and CRM applications and data warehouse systems, and also aids in data-intensive tasks related to planning, forecasting and simulation.
