Siemens has bundled its expertise in the area of healthcare telematics. Competencies and technology associated with electronic health cards and IT security solutions are to be transferred from Siemens' Communications Group to Siemens' Medical Solutions Group.
"IT plays a crucial role in optimising processes in the healthcare industry," said Prof Dr Erich R Reinhardt, member of the managing board of Siemens AG and president of the Siemens Medical Solutions Group.
Nurses receive minimal IT training
Minimal training on systems and little input into the selection of products characterises the experience of many nurses with IT, according to a recent survey.
A quarter of the nurses surveyed indicated they had received no IT training on the job over the last year, while 56% said they had gotten only between one and eight hours of IT training reports eWeek.
High acuity care information systems grows
Analysis from Frost and Sullivan, US High Acuity Care Information Systems Markets, reveals the market accrued revenues of $549 million in 2005, and is likely to increase with a compound annual growth rate of 12.5% through 2012 reports Yahoo News.
The analysis shows high acuity care departments are turning to IT applications to improve patient care and safety. This is essentially fuelling the growth of the high acuity care information systems markets.
