VERITAS Software Corporation has announced the availability of version 3.0 of VERITAS Volume Manager for HP-UX.
VERITAS Volume Manager is an online disk management product for enterprise customers deploying traditional point-to-point storage solutions or storage area networks (SANs). It enables customers to manage storage subsystems across multiple operating systems from a single console.
VERITAS Volume Manager ships with a Java-based graphical user interface (GUI) simplifying device configuration and management. The solution alleviates downtime during system maintenance by facilitating incremental growth of volumes or even reconfiguration of RAID layouts online, while maintaining application access to data.
By offering fault-tolerant features, VERITAS Volume Manager eliminates single points of failure and ensures data integrity and high availability. "HP and VERITAS Software share the common goal of providing users with a storage infrastructure for improving the performance and management of mission-critical enterprise data," says Patrick Rogers, worldwide marketing manager for HP`s Business Critical Computing Business Unit.
"With over 40 OEM relationships, VERITAS Software provides a solution that can bridge a mix of OS and storage platforms, proactively preventing downtime and intelligently delivering on-line failure recovery and fault-tolerant features. Customers in heterogeneous operating system environments will particularly benefit from VERITAS Volume Manager. The product`s Java-based console allows these customers to monitor and manage storage of, for example, both HP and Sun servers from the same interface," says Nick van Noordwyk, regional manager, Middle East and Africa at VERITAS Software SA.
Through the support of RAID techniques, VERITAS Volume Manager protects against disk and hardware failures, while providing the flexibility to extend the capabilities of existing hardware. VERITAS Volume Manager offers mirroring and striping (RAID 0+1 and RAID 1+0). By providing a logical volume management layer, VERITAS Volume Manager overcomes the physical restriction imposed by hardware disk devices by allowing volumes to span multiple disks or storage arrays.
VERITAS Volume Manager eliminates single points of failure, protecting against path failure for multi-path storage arrays. Arrays that support concurrent multi-path access to their disk benefit from the load-balancing feature of VERITAS Volume Manager, which improves performance by spreading the I/O across all available paths.
