Hewlett-Packard has thrown out all the accepted perceptions of what a PC should look like and do and has launched the futuristic concept e-pc - a total reinvention of the high performance desktop PC.
Commenting on the company`s development plans this week, Adrian Delport, Market Development manager, Business PCs, says the new concept e-pc is set to revolutionise the way people will think and use PCs.
"It`s still very much a concept and there are no plans to launch a specific product, but HP`s approach to its new-generation desktop PC platform certainly discards any pre-conceived ideas of what a PC should look like. It embraces 21st Century rather than legacy technologies," he says.
The concept e-pc is seen as HP`s PC Internet computing platform for the decade ahead, integrating Intel`s latest Pentium processor into a new, friendly and personal industrially designed HP e-pc chassis that will bring a new look and feel to the office desktop.
"The e-pc proves that you don`t need to compromise performance and functionality to achieve good design. It is being designed so that it can blend into any business environment while delivering the processing power needed to leverage the upcoming technologies of the 21st Century," adds Delport.
The e-pc platform will provide for anywhere/anytime computing, free of legacy technologies and incorporating the world`s highest performing processor as well as the latest and future technologies.
Some of these will include a 20GB hard disk drive measuring just 2.5-inches, 512MB Rambus memory, sevens USB ports - two in the front of the PC, five in the back - ATI Radeon high performance graphics, and 18pinch monitor, USB keyboard and solid state mouse, and a slim CD or CD-RW/DVD combination.
"It also has built-in wireless facilities that will support HP wireless accessories as well as the upcoming Bluetooth wireless technology. When this is rolled out early next year you`ll see the beginning of a new era in networking and the concept e-pc will be there as a key component of that future," concludes Delport.
