
Hitachi drives unified computing
Hitachi Data Systems has jumped aboard the unified computing system bandwagon currently occupied by Hewlett-Packard, Dell/Brocade and Cisco Systems, reports eWeek.
Hitachi is introducing an open-standards-based, unified computing platform aimed at cloud computing deployments for Internet service providers and enterprises.
Partners in the system include Microsoft for its virtualisation layer and infrastructure services, QLogic for network adapters and Emulex for storage controllers.
T-Mobile rolls out navigation smartphone
T-Mobile has unveiled an Android-powered smartphone with Garmin's navigation software; code-named the Garminfone, states Mobiledia.
Built in partnership with PC maker Asustek and navigation device maker Garmin, the Garminfone is the first Android-powered smartphone with preloaded maps and a database of nearly six million points of interest.
The Garminfone provides voice and on-screen directions, traffic warnings with automatic re-routing, traffic warnings and an application that helps users find their car.
Taiwan Mobile eyes convergence
Taiwan Mobile is transforming itself into a digital convergence provider, combining cable TV and digital content services with its acquisition of cable TV operator Kbro, says Cens.com
Taiwan Mobile is not stopping there, as it plans to take over music download site ezPeer from C-Media Electronics by acquiring 55% of its stocks in two phases; paving the way for its entry into mainland China's market for mobile phone ring tones.
Taiwan Mobile will acquire around 45% of ezPeer for around $1.6 million in first phase and around 10% for $337 500 in the second phase.
