Looking to replace or upgrade your personal desktop printer? According to Traci Maynard, product manager for Hewlett-Packard peripherals at Tarsus Technologies, the distribution arm of MB Technologies, the Hewlett-Packard 840C is the ideal replacement for the 610C which previously set a universal standard for personal printers.

"The 840C is equipped with a standard 2MB of RAM, significantly more than the 512KB of the 610C," she begins. According to her, this results in a greatly improved speed as the 840C is able to handle bigger jobs while freeing system resources to return to the application being used.

Connectivity is also enhanced on the 840C, which boasts a USB port in addition to the standard parallel port. "Thanks to this addition, the 840C is also suitable for Mac users," comments Maynard.

Finally, Maynard adds that the 840C features PhotREtII, a proprietary technology from Hewlett-Packard that results in improved skin tones for more lifelike colours. "This is an updated technology from the standard PhotoREt that is equipped on the 610C," she says.

Maynard reveals that the suggested price of the 840C is R1199.99 including VAT, compared to the R899.99 price tag of the 610C.
