TapeAlert and HP TapeAssure Ease Configuration, Administration and Management Issues for Central, Regional and Remote Sites Hewlett-Packard Company has announced it has added TapeAlert self-diagnostic software and HP TapeAssure configuration-verification software to its family of DLT products. These utilities contribute to the overall simplicity, greater reliability and reduced administrative overhead of backup and recovery operations. "TapeAlert and HP TapeAssure greatly simplify management and configuration of tape backup systems for administrators and network managers," said Ivan Kraemer, HP marketing manager, information storage group. "By eliminating a host of network-management and system-configuration headaches, trouble-shooting and installation times are minimised. The big payoff to the administrator is increased productivity." HP`s TapeAlert technology dispenses comprehensive on-line advice - through backup software or by reporting up to an SNMP-based management console - on events ranging from media and cleaning errors to more complex hardware problems. Implemented first on HP`s DAT drives and now available for HP`s DLT products, TapeAlert technology has been offered as an open standard for adoption by software and hardware vendors. It is currently compatible with leading software vendors` backup applications and reports error conditions up to Computer Associates` Unicenter, HP OpenView and Novell`s ManageWise. HP TapeAssure is an easy-to-use software utility that verifies correct installation of HP SureStore tape products. HP TapeAssure scans a system for all attached SCSI devices, lists them with their SCSI ID settings and runs a series of tests to verify correct operation. In the event of a failure, advice is given to enable the customer to rectify the problem. Designed for network backup solutions, HP TapeAssure runs under Microsoft Windows NT and NetWare. "HP`s SureStore DLT automated products offer mid-sized to large organisations their best insurance policy against loss or corruption of critical data," said Kraemer. "With the inclusion of HP`s TapeAssure installation software and TapeAlert administration and management utilities, HP SureStore DLT products offer an outstanding combination of performance, ease of use and manageability." HP`s complete line of DLT products - the HP SureStore DLT library 28/48-slot, HP SureStore DLT library 15-slot, HP SureStore DLT autoloader 418, the HP SureStore DLT 40i/e and the HP SureStore DLT 70e backup products - addresses key market trends, including rapidly growing volumes of corporate data that must be safeguarded against loss or corruption. HP`s SureStore DLT library, DLT autoloader and DLT drive products offer customers fast, reliable, unattended tape backup solutions - compatible with Microsoft`s Windows NT plug-and-play standard - that protect valuable corporate data, both at headquarters and at satellite offices. The DLT library and autoloader products leverage HP`s proven robotics expertise to handle automated tape loading and rotation, and use DLT drive technology. With the addition of TapeAlert and HP TapeAssure utilities, customers can configure their backup devices quickly and accurately, and manage them locally or remotely.
