Hewlett-Packard Company has introduced the HP 2000C and HP 2000CN Professional Series colour printer family, which creates a new class of printer for the office desktop. The HP 2000C Professional Series colour printers use a number of technology innovations to deliver laser-class colour speed, low cost of operation and unprecedented levels of manageability for less than half the cost of low end colour laser printers. This new class of printers fills a gap in the market between existing inkjet printers and colour laser printers.
The speed of colour printing has always been an issue for the office, and users would prefer the fast print speeds, low operating costs, robustness and flexibility normally found in monochrome laser printers. Many organisations would like to provide more on a network to deliver the colour throughput required, but the purchase costs are prohibitive. The HP 2000C Professional Series solves the problem with its colour laser speed combined with its personal laser printer price tag.
The HP 2000C Professional Series colour printers` breakthrough in colour printing speed is achieved without compromising print quality. For typical desktop printing, they produce full-colour pages at up to five times the speed of the best-selling HP DeskJet 690C series printer, putting them in the speed class of colour laser printers.
The HP 2000C/CN Professional Series colour printers deliver full colour pages at up to 2 ppm (4ppm in Econofast). Black print speeds are comparable to personal desktop monochrome laser printers (up to 10ppm).
The following info details full-page colour print speeds in normal mode, the mode most commonly used by business users, on a selection of HP printers.
Average speed (in minutes) for a full-page colour document in normal mode:
Traditional Inkjet printers
HP DeskJet 690C - 3:32 minutes
HP DeskJet 890C - 2:18 minutes
Next generation InkJet printers
HP 2000C/CN - 43 seconds
Colour Laser printers
HP Color LaserJet 5M - 2:39 minutes
Laser printer speed does not include startup time.
Three full A4 colour pages were used to determine the average speedThe HP 2000C printers` smart printing technology delivers cost- and time-savings. Hewlett-Packard expects users to see significant operating cost savings from the innovative modular ink delivery system`s four separate long-life printheads and four separate high capacity ink cartridges which are user-replaceable and inexpensive.
Each component of the system has a "smart chip" device which monitors the performance of the system, manages the component to ensure consistent performance and provides information to the computer for the user (backgrounder is available on request).
The user has information about the ink levels displayed on screen before printing - reducing the need to re-print, reducing inconvenient printer down-time, minimising ink and media waste. In addition, a transparency sensor automatically adjusts printer settings with no user intervention.
The HP 2000C Professional Series colour printer family will be available in two models - the HP 2000C for personal desktop use and the HP 2000CN suitable for small workgroups. The HP 2000CN will include an HP JetDirect 300X print server, HP JetAdmin management software and a second, 250-sheet paper tray.
