Hewlett-Packard Company has introduced a 14GB tape backup solution designed to deliver affordable, high-speed, easy-to-use, full-system data-protection solutions for stand-alone power users, small businesses and mobile computing professionals.
The new HP Colorado 14GBi/e (internal/external) tape drive expands HP`s range of high-capacity HP Colorado tape backup solutions, which are based on HP`s market-proven Travan technology. The 14GB is designed to meet or exceed the capacity of today`s disk drives, enabling users to protect not only data files, but also such critical elements as applications and preferences, operating-system configurations and Web-browser bookmarks. In addition, the HP Colorado 14GB drive runs approximately 40 percent faster than its predecessors, enabling it to back up substantially more information in the same time.
"The HP Colorado 14GB tape drive will offer high-capacity backup for small-business and home users who today have limited choices," said Bob Amatruda, senior analyst for Tape and Removable Storage Products at IDC. "The large capacity allows users to back up their full systems on one cartridge, making it a simple process."

Highest-speed IDE tape available - benchmark tests confirmed by Veritest show that the HP Colorado 14GB runs approximately 40 percent faster than previous HP Colorado products, enabling users to back up more data in less time.
HP Media Monitor software - warns users when failure is likely due to wear, or when a cartridge has exceeded what HP deems a "safe" life span. Even when a consistent backup plan is in place, small businesses can lose data if it is stored on faulty media. HP`s exclusive Media Monitor software helps eliminate that possibility.
HP Colorado Backup II software - gives users optimum control over backup and recovery procedures, offers quick installation and configuration. In addition, it offers one-button backup and recovery, reducing key functions to a single mouse click. The software also includes an easy-to-use scheduler that allows users to set system backup time for off-hours or weekends.
Availability HP`s Colorado 14GBi/e drive (internal and external versions) is expected to be available April 1 through HP authorized resellers, distributors, retailers and mail-order catalogs worldwide.
