HP, Box.net
Xinhuanet reports.
Customers who purchase HP Compaq Elite and HP Compaq Pro business desktops will have access to special offers from Box.net that include increased storage and enterprise sync for enhanced collaboration and content management in the cloud, according to the companies.
HP and Box see massive market opportunity in the partnership, News Factor writes.
Although $74 billion was spent on public cloud services in 2010, Gartner estimates that figure represented a meagre 3% of enterprise spending.
HP's former CEO, Leo Apotheker, had planned to steer HP away from selling PCs, a business that has become less appealing as computing has shifted toward mobile devices, InformationWeek states.
The company in August said it would get rid of its PC division. But the following month, HP's board replaced Apotheker with Meg Whitman.
In October, Whitman, as HP's new CEO, reversed course and committed to retaining HP's PC group. "HP and Personal Systems Group (PSG) are better together. At the end of the day, the cost and the risk of a separation are simply greater than any value we could create (by spinning PSG off)."
