HP claims top spot

Johannesburg, 10 Dec 2009

Global IT company HP has the number one server position in revenue and total units shipped in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region in the third quarter.

HP also held the top spot for total server units shipped worldwide, according to third quarter calendar year 2009 figures released by IDC.

In addition, it says it has the top spot in the local market, with 40.9% total server unit shipments and 33.2% revenue share, almost twice the unit volume of the nearest competitor, it claims. The company says it grew shipments during a time that most others saw declines in the EMEA region.

In addition, its share of x86 server revenue for the third quarter in EMEA reached 50.3%, more than the next three competitors combined. HP held on to the number one spot in total server units shipped worldwide with a 36.5% share.

HP is also the top company in combined Unix-Windows-Linux units and revenue. This represents 99.3% of all servers shipped and 84.7% of all server revenue. “Overall, HP ships more than one out of every three servers in the world,” it says.

The company's portfolio spans printing, personal computing, software, services and IT infrastructure.
