HP Designjet 3800CP large-format printer outperforms rival printer in independent tests

Johannesburg, 06 Dec 1999

Hewlett-Packard Company has announced that tests conducted by SpencerLab, a Melville, N.Y.-based independent-testing house and division of Spencer & Associates Publishing, Ltd., confirm that HP`s top-of-the-line HP DesignJet 3800CP 54-inch printer prints significantly faster in comparable image-quality modes than one of its closest competitors. The HP-commissioned tests also prove that the HP DesignJet 3800CP printer uses less ink and requires less user intervention than its rival.

"In SpencerLab`s independent testing, the HP DesignJet 3800CP printer delivered throughput speeds up to two-and-a-half times faster than its rival," said David Spencer, president of Spencer & Associates Publishing, Ltd. "It also offered lower cost-per-print and required fewer than half the user interventions to change ink cartridges."

The tests were conducted to compare the relative throughput speed, performance and ink cost-per-print of the two printers. To do this, test files from the SpencerLab large-format-printer test suite were printed on coated and glossy media in comparable stochastic/fine dithering settings and high-speed print modes.

The results, which are available at http://www.spencerlab.com/ http://www.spencerlab.com/ , concluded that, on test files used in comparable image-quality modes, the HP DesignJet 3800CP printer outperformed its rival`s throughput speeds by the following percentages:

  • 153 percent faster on glossy media; and

  • 78 percent faster on coated media.

Furthermore, the SpencerLab tests showed that the HP DesignJet 3800CP printer:

  • achieved a lower ink cost-per-print result; and

  • required less than half the number of user interventions to change ink cartridges.

"These results are testimony to HP`s excellence in designing thermal inkjet, large-format printers that deliver the very best in productivity, image quality and cost-of ownership," said Wim Heuninck, HP sales & marketing manager, Hardcopy products. "By delivering consistently sellable prints, using less ink and costing less to run and , the HP DesignJet 3800CP printer is a sound investment for print service providers."
