The machine, an upgrade from the dx2000, is the newest addition to the 2000 series in HP`s business desktop range.
In a previous statement, the company said the dx2200 would be available on 30 May and sell at average cost of R6 000, depending on the configuration of the machine.
The release was delayed by two weeks, however, the machine is now available at a starting price of R3 999, the company says.
Assembled locally through HP`s partnership with black empowerment company Matomo Technologies, South African customers can select from one of several pre-determined configurations. Alternatively, they can build their own customised version, and have it delivered within a 72-hour turnaround period, says Stefan Minihold, ALC programme manager.
The dx2200 features an Intel Pentium 4 processor, with hyper-threading technology, 65-nanometre architecture, and 2MBs of level two cache. The PC can also be configured with Intel`s Celeron line of value-oriented processors, HP says.
It includes a DVD writer, featuring the HP Lightscribe technology, and integrated graphics from ATI.
Increased capacity
In its first year of operation in 2002, Matomo assembled 22 000 PCs, while the 2005 financial year saw this figure rise to 95 000.
Matomo Technologies relocated to larger premises in Midrand this year, and added an extra production line. Production is expected to increase significantly at the larger premises, HP said in a statement.
