IBM recorded 28.9% share of the market, down from 29.5% in the first quarter of 2007. Dell claimed third place with 12.1%, followed by Sun Microsystems with 9.7% and Fujitsu/Siemens with 5.4%.
NEC reveals green server
NEC has unveiled a new space and energy-saving server that promises to halve the power consumption used by conventional servers, reports ITnews.
NEC claims the server, which has been dubbed the Eco Center, occupies 50% less space and is approximately 58% lighter than conventional servers.
The Eco Center incorporates batteries that require 20% less electrical power than conventional batteries. Furthermore, its server components are optimally located to maximise cooling airflow, which reduces the system's temperature and amount of electricity required to operate.
WHS develops bug fix
Microsoft is urging Windows Home Server (WHS) users not to get too optimistic that a bug-free fix for the operating system's corruption problems will be finished by June, due to the time needed for testing, states DailyTech.
This week Microsoft finally rolled out the beta build of that fix, named WHS Power Pack 1. Microsoft's WHS team is being cautious with beta release and checking for problems.
They write in their blog, "We intend to allow adequate time for feedback and thorough testing during the beta process."
