HP introduces a brilliant, affordable signage alternative

HP Colorlucent Backlit UV gives professional print service providers an affordable, durable, photo-quality alternative for their customers with small- and medium-sized businesses
Johannesburg, 10 Mar 2000

Hewlett-Packard Company has announced the introduction of HP Colorlucent Backlit UV printing material, an affordable alternative to Duratrans that can be used with HP DesignJet CP series large-format printers. HP Colorlucent Backlit UV is designed for businesses that need dramatic signage and advertising, but can`t afford the high cost of Duratrans.

HP Colorlucent Backlit UV is a large-format, translucent material designed to work with the HP DesignJet CP Ink System UV to print brilliant, photo-quality images quickly and affordably. The ink and printing material resist moisture, smearing, scratching and fading and can be displayed for up to five years indoors or two years outdoors in a lightbox.

"The breakthrough is getting this kind of image quality and durability without paying large sums of money for it," said Wim Heuninck, HP sales & marketing manager, Hardcopy products. "With our new backlit material, customers get vibrant colours and dense blacks, doesn`t need lamination and is a fraction of the cost of Duratrans. It`s the perfect solution for any business that needs dynamic and affordable signage that can be changed regularly."

For professional print providers, HP Colorlucent Backlit UV is a new product that they can use with their existing HP DesignJet CP printers. Prints can be stacked or used with a take-up reel, making it easy to handle jobs.

"HP Colorlucent Backlit UV is an excellent addition to our product portfolio," said Heuninck. "It`s simple to use, and the images are spectacular. Our customers will love it."

HP Colorlucent Backlit UV is the latest addition to the HP printing material line. The HP line is being developed continually as an integral part of the entire printing system - printer, inks and media - and offers the highest possible print performance, reliability and consistency. The line includes bond, coated and glossy papers, photobase, canvas, vinyl and Tyvek banners. In addition to the introduction of the new backlit material, HP products also boast increased printing-material compatibility across the entire HP DesignJet printer line. A new and complete compatibility chart is available on the Web at http://www.hp.com/go/designjet. HP Colorlucent Backlit UV is available in 30-metre rolls in both 914mm and 1372mm (36- and 54-inch) widths from HP printing-material resellers.
