HP introduces two new complete data-protection solutions for small business

Oracle Draws on Advisory Board to Identify, Address Challenges Faced by the Industry
Johannesburg, 23 Apr 1998

Hewlett-Packard Company has introduced two new tape backup systems that expand HP`s line of small-business solutions and make it faster, easier and more affordable to deploy full-system for smaller networks and desktop PCs.Specifically, the HP Colorado 8GB (internal and external) further strengthens HP`s small-business desktop data-protection portfolio, which now includes the T3000 (3.2GB capacity), as well as HP Colorado 5GB and 8GB drives. For the entry-level client/server or peer-to-peer , the new HP SureStore T4 with Stac`s Replica Backup software delivers a complete, easy-to-use, affordable small-network backup solution."Because small businesses in the Information Age define themselves as much by their intellectual property as by their capital assets, it`s critical that they have in place a data-protection `insurance policy` in the form of a simple, reliable backup and recovery strategy," Ivan Kraemer, HP marketing manager, information storage group. "Our goal is to provide small businesses with easy-to-use, affordable data protection - spanning a wide range of capacities and performance levels - to help ensure that backup and storage become a core part of their overall business survival strategies."According to a recent Dun & Bradstreet survey, the United States` 7 million small businesses - those businesses with fewer than 100 employees - comprise 92 percent of all U.S. companies; an additional 13 million small businesses are located in Europe. In independent studies conducted for HP, users listed ease-of-use, capacity, performance, reliability and affordability as their top requirements in the desktop PC or small LAN environments. HP has designed the T4i/e and the 8GB tape drives specifically to meet these needs. The HP SureStore T4i/e - For entry-level client/server and peer-to-peer networks, HP`s SureStore T4 tape drive is a complete, "all-in-one-box" backup solution that`s easy to purchase, install and use. The drives include Stac Inc.`s performance-enhancing Replica Backup software for Microsoft Windows NT and Novell NetWare. The product also includes several ease-of-use breakthroughs, including the HP TapeAssure utility, which guides users through installation, and HP TapeAlert, which provides diagnostics during backup and recovery. To further simplify operations, Stac`s Replica Backup software, HP SureStore Tape Edition, now brings one-button backup, scheduling, setup wizards and the ability to eliminate open file errors through its Object Replication Technology to Windows NT and NetWare servers. The HP Colorado 8GB tape drive - This is one of the industry`s highest-capacity and fastest backup products. Based on a high-performance IDE controller, it`s two to three times faster than floppy-controller-based tape drives, doesn`t require proprietary add-in cards and features simplified installation and operation. All products meet high reliability standards, with a minimum 200,000 hours MTBF (mean time between failures) rate. Products include a two-year limited warranty and 90 days of free support from HP for Colorado software. The T4 also includes 90 days of support from Stac for Replica Backup software, as well as HP`s 24-hour Express Exchange service. All products are available now through HP authorised resellers, distributtors and retailers world-wide.
