HP LaserJet 8150MFP from Tarsus combines printing, digital copying

Johannesburg, 03 Jul 2001

To further enhance productivity of communications, the HPLaserJet 8150 MFP, available from Tarsus Technologies, a member of JSE-listed MB Technologies, offers copying capabilities, as well as the capacity to print and digitally send (fax or e-mail) from a single LaserJet device.

This integrated communications tool provides department managers with a fast and secure alternative to couriers and faxes, and eliminates the accompanying administration costs by linking digital technology and hard copies. "The HP 8150MFP is the first example of a new departmental device which combines the world market-leading HP LaserJet engine with comprehensive `walk-up` copier functions," says Traci Maynard, HP peripherals manager at Tarsus Technologies. "The HP 8150MFP offers increased workplace productivity through seamless network integration, unmatched ease-of-use and unique class-leading features." The HP 8150MFP produces multiple original print-outs of a document direct from a PC at 32 pages per minute, but is also a 32ipm, duplex, full-feature, digital copier.

"Why lease or buy a traditional copier when for the same price or less you can have the HP 8150MFP - a digital high-quality, high-performance network copier?" she asks.

"The HP 8150MFP offers high-volume, professional, and network printing and copying as a replacement for the traditional stand-alone office copier," Maynard continues. "Multiple original printing of documents from the PC are replacing much of the copying previously done using conventional photocopiers." Digital copying on the HP 8150MFP is available via a document feeder which scans pages on both sides for duplex copying, and also via a flatbed scanner for copying of book pages or odd-sized documents. In addition, the HP 8150MFP offers a HP ChaiServer embedded virtual machine (EVM). The EVM is a programming environment that enables the printer to execute Java applications.

Another feature of the HP LaserJet 8150MFP is an embedded web server. Combined with industry-leading HP Web JetAdmin software, the new printers boast a completely scalable offering of remote-management capabilities. The printers can be upgraded or pre-configured with an HP JetDirect 610N internal print server for 10/100Base TX network connections. The print server offers four times the performance throughput of its predecessor, 2MB of flash memory, and full-featured compatibility with HP WebJet Admin software. The 8150 is equipped with Fast Ethernet 10/100Base-TX, 10Base-T and 10Base2 Ethernet and Local Talk. The 8150N, 8150DN and 8150HNmodels come with 10Base-T and 10Base2 Ethernet, LocalTalk, Token Ring and Fast Ethernet 10/100Base-TX print server.

"The high-volume network printing systems improve productivity, network management and cost efficiency in the most demanding monochrome printing environments," Maynard concludes.

Tarsus Technologies

Tarsus Technologies is the distribution arm of MB Technologies Limited, a company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and one of SA`s leading IT groups.

The founding company of the group, Tarsus Technologies, was established in 1985 by Leo Baxter, and was involved in the development and sale of software before diversifying into hardware distribution.

In 1989 Baxter sold a majority share to M+PD Electronics, which was subsequently sold to Siltek. In the early 1990s, Tarsus expanded its hardware sales, and was appointed distributor for OKI, Samsung and Compaq. In 1992, Baxter bought back Tarsus, selling a majority share to Persetel, and in 1994 he took advantage of an opportunity for a management buyout and repurchased the company with Mike McGrath acquiring an equal share.

The company was now growing strongly, and MB Technologies was formed as a holding company to cater for the group expanding and diversifying its operations into new areas.

Today, Tarsus Technologies is one of SA`s leading hardware distributors and widely recognised by the channel for its service ethos, product knowledge, excellent support and channel focus.

With an executive board comprising Mike McGrath (the founder of M+PD and past MD of Siltek), Leo Baxter, Guy Whitcroft, Pierre Spies, and Jamie Scott, Tarsus` management team is arguably the most experienced IT distribution team of any company in the country.
