HP recently announced it secured number one server position in revenue and total units shipped in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region (1). HP also held the top spot for total server units shipped worldwide, according to third quarter calendar year 2009 figures released by IDC.
HP showed significant strength in the South African market, with 40.9% total server unit shipments and 33.2% revenue share, almost twice the unit volume of the nearest competitor.
HP outpaced the market, most of which saw declines in EMEA, with 2.6 percentage points share gain year-over-year in total unit shipments in the region. Further, HP leadership in x86 server revenue for the third quarter in EMEA reached 50.3%, more than the next three competitors combined.
HP held on to the number one spot in total server units shipped worldwide, with 36.5% share. HP is also number one in combined UNIX-Windows-Linux units and revenue. This represents 99.3% of all servers shipped and 84.7% of all server revenue. Overall, HP ships more than one out of every three servers in the world.
HP expanded its worldwide leadership in the following:
* Growth in the UNIX market, taking the number two revenue position this quarter from Sun Microsystems, with 29.2% market share as more customers migrate from Solaris to HP-UX. HP also holds the number two position for total UNIX unit shipments.
* Number one in x86 servers, with 36.9% share in units and 37.7% share in revenue. HP ProLiant has been number one in x86 server unit shipments for 53 consecutive quarters(2). HP is currently celebrating 20 years of x86 server innovation and leadership.
* HP BladeSystem has maintained the number one position, leading the blade server market in both units and revenue, with 47.7% and 50.7% share respectively.
