HP leads the way in worldwide storage trends, says Tarsus

Johannesburg, 15 Oct 2002

Second quarter results on the worldwide disk storage market, as released in September by IDC, show that HP is not only the market leader in total disk storage systems revenue, but is also streaks ahead in the external disk storage systems market.

Among the top five storage vendors in worldwide disk storage systems revenue alone, HP held a commanding lead during Q2, bringing in 35% more revenue than the second-placed vendor and a staggering 45% more than the vendor with the third-highest revenue.

The report also states that HP holds a "strong lead" in total terabytes shipped during the period with 30% market share.

IDC`s Worldwide Disk Storage Systems Tracker places HP in poll position in terms of external RAID storage systems factory revenue for western Europe and Asia Pacific, excluding Japan.

The IDC results are indicative of the South African storage market, in which 70% of all storage is external, says Andr'e Wollheim, enterprise and storage product manager at Tarsus Technologies, the value-add distribution arm of MB Technologies and distributor of the HP range of storage products.

"Local storage needs and the related growth factor is similar to the rest of the world. We carry the same storage products as those available internationally. Our offering includes the RA4100, MSA1000, MA8000 and the state-of-the-art EVA systems," says Wollheim.
