HP leads unit shipments
HP has retained the top slot in notebooks and desktops, with a market share of 17%, followed by HCL at 13%, and Lenovo at 7% in terms of unit shipments, according to IDC, a global provider of market intelligence.
In terms of total desktop shipments, HCL led the market, but HP came out as the top vendor in terms of total notebook PC shipments, reports dnaindia.com.
The consumer desktop category witnessed a 29% year-on-year growth in unit shipments in 2005 over 2004. HCL led this category over HP, with LG following the market leaders at the third slot.
Dell notebooks to use 3G technology
Dell will use Vodafone`s 3G wireless broadband technology in its notebooks, benefiting customers in the UK.
Dell will offer notebooks with optional integrated high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) wireless broadband capability, reports Tech Digest.
The company claims that this will boost current 3G download speeds by approximately four times, allowing users to have fast access to e-mail, the Internet and servers through the Vodafone mobile broadband data network.
Intel`s notebook staying power
Notebooks with Intel`s upcoming Merom processor should be able to break the five-hour battery life barrier, reports DV Hardware.
Intel`s latest notebook processor, Core Duo, will offer users more than four hours of battery time in most notebooks, once the chip becomes available in volume.
The upcoming Merom processor will be contributing to bump the current 240 to 270 minute range to at least 300 minutes.
