EMC has announced extension of the automatic fail-over capabilities of its Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems with Hewlett-Packard`s MetroCluster software. The solution now supports automatic remote fail-over of multiple Symmetrix systems in an HP environment.
"HP MetroCluster with EMC SRDF integrates EMC`s Symmetrix Remote Data Facility software, which provides remote fail-over of EMC Enterprise Storage systems, with HP`s MC/ServiceGuard high availability clustering software. This reduces downtime by protecting against hardware and software failures," says Graham Prime, product marketing manager at EMC SA.
"The solution enables automatic fail-over of clustered HP server environments, applications and their EMC Enterprise Storage at distances up to 50 kilometres, providing customers with a disaster tolerant data centre solution."
The ability to support multiple Symmetrix systems enhances this technology to allow customers to scale their information storage environments as needed, while still providing automatic fail-over of all information.
Mark Hudson, senior director for HP`s Business Critical Computing Unit, says, "HP`s MetroCluster with SRDF is providing customers with a high level of business continuance capabilities. The extension of this technology to support multiple Symmetrix systems is a testament to the efforts between HP and EMC to provide customers with a choice of storage solutions for HP servers that meet their uptime/disaster recovery requirements.
"The Internet has redefined high availability. Downtime, now more than ever, can have a catastrophic impact on a business. The addition of multiple Symmetrix support in HP MetroCluster environments is a result of customer demand for the protection that an automatic fail-over solution provides and the scalability to meet ever-growing information needs," Prime concludes.
