HP offers Enviro notebook batteries
HP has released its 'green' Enviro series batteries for its notebooks, which utilise improved lithium-ion battery technology created by Boston Power that extends battery lifetime to at least three years, and that cuts recharge times nearly in half, reports Tom's Hardware.
Graphics and CPU manufacturers have offered mobile-based chipsets to help alleviate the drawbacks of portable computing and their need for frequent battery recharges. Despite that, battery technology has continued to struggle to keep up with the demands of consumers and the needs of constantly evolving processing technology.
In the partnership between HP and Boston Power, a number of HP notebooks now have the ability to replace current battery solutions with the Enviro series which has longer battery life and uses less power.
Accenture, Cisco unveil solution
Accenture and Cisco have introduced four new solutions based on Cisco's next-generation data centre platform, the Unified Computing System, which are designed to help large enterprises improve the scalability and reduce the total cost of their information technology architectures, says msnbc.
The Cisco Unified Computing System is an evolutionary data centre architecture that unites computing, network, storage access and virtualisation resources in a single energy-efficient system.
It allows large organisations to migrate their enterprise applications such as mission-critical ERP applications from expensive big computers to smaller, simpler, more efficient and cost-effective systems powered by low-cost microprocessors.
D-Link wins green award
D-Link has won the 2008 PC Magazine Technical Excellence Award for its D-Link Green technology innovations, says msnbc.
A winner in the Ecotech category, D-Link Green was among 15 finalists in the annual awards programme. Winners were chosen by the magazine's editors and contributing writers from hundreds of products introduced last year.
The magazine says D-Link's recently released line of green products include two intelligent detection technologies to help reduce wasted power: "Products like the DGS-2205 detect when ports are inactive, adjusting power accordingly. These devices also can analyse the length of attached Ethernet cables and reduce transmission power."
