HP rolls out renewable power

HP has completed building a 1.1 megawatt, 6 256 solar panel system at its centre in San Diego, says eWeek.

The new system is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 27 000 tons during the next 30 years and will save the company $750 000 within the next 15 years by generating 10% of the facility's power.

In addition, HP is participating in Austin's Green Choice programme, to procure almost 19.9 million kilowatt hours of wind energy from wind farms in western Texas for two of its Austin data centres, which represents 20% of the annual energy used by them.

The Portege A605 laptop PC, which is equipped with Intel Centrino 2 Duo Processor technology, 3GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive, is also Energy Star 4.0 compliant.
